It’s no secret that even seasoned drivers can struggle to park their vehicle perfectly. Most of us dread the thought of having to park the car. One of the trickiest things about parking a car is completing it without affecting nearby vehicles.

The good news is that you can master parking with just five tips and a little practice. We’ve listed five of the easiest tips that can help you park your car in minutes!

Find a parallel parking space

The first step is to start driving slowly along parallel parked cars. Be sure to keep the turn signals on so other drivers know you are parking. One of the golden rules of parking is that the spot should be 4 feet longer than the length of the vehicle. Once you have spotted a parking space for your car, you can pull over.

Find the perfect stop

Start by keeping a distance of 3 feet from nearby cars and slowly pull along the area near the spot. Stop so that the rear wheel of your vehicle coincides with the rear bumper of the car in front of you. You can check this by looking out the window and making sure the C-pillar is flush with the rear corner of the other vehicle. This place would be perfect to start your parallel parking.

start backing up

Once you have stopped the vehicle, it is time to start the parallel parking movement. If the parking space is on your right, turn the steering wheel completely to the same side and vice versa. After that, start backing up and keep an eye on your left side mirror. You can stop backing up when the entire car behind you is visible in the left side mirror.

Line up your car in the parallel parking spot

Now you can bring the steering wheel position straight. Once again, start backing up slowly and keep your eyes on the right side mirror of the vehicle. Once this mirror coincides with the left rear corner of the car parked nearby, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. Continue backing up until the vehicle is parallel to the curb.

Make sure there is enough gap

Now that you’ve achieved the perfect parallel position, make sure the car has left a two-foot distance in front and behind. This space will allow you to quickly exit the parking space. In addition, it guarantees enough space for others to maneuver their car without hitting your vehicle.
