Maine Shaw drivers and mechanics go on strike
As of this morning (May 3), dozens of drivers and mechanics who work for the Shaw supermarket chain have been on strike.
According to WMTW, Teamsters Local 340 voted to authorize the strike in November. The vote took place after the failure of contract negotiations, comprising thirteen meetings. A federal mediator has even been called in to help the parties reach a compromise.
The sticking points in the negotiations included health insurance, contracting out and pension benefits.
The 70 or so strikers all work in Wells and Scarborough.
It’s unclear how the strike will affect Shaw stores in Maine.
