Metro Inn hotel in Stockton called ‘dirty’ on Facebook Live review

A POPULAR pub owner has slammed a hotel in the North East after saying it was ‘like a prison’ and ‘by far the worst hotel’ he has ever stayed in.

Craig Harker, owner of the George Pub and Grill in Stockton, splashed out £29 on a room at the nearby Metro Inn hotel in Stockton to try it out.

Speaking to thousands of Facebook Live followers, he listed scathing reviews for the venue where he said he could imagine the hotel was “worse than prison”.

During Facebook Live, Mr Harker started talking on camera where he claimed he had never seen such a bad hotel before.

The hotel room appears to consist of a double bed, a single bed above, a bedside table and drawers and a sink with a mirror.

In the “video review”, he goes on to describe how the room smells “awful” and there is “a very strong smell of tobacco” among the furniture.

Filming the sink area, the sink looks old but not very clean and he says it’s “by far the worst hotel experience I’ve had” in the UK.

He goes on to say, “There’s a really old radiator, bad paint and it’s not very clean, but I guess if you want to relax there’s a bed, a double and a single.

“It’s awful, I definitely wouldn’t bring my kids here, I wouldn’t even stay here myself, it’s intimidating and dirty inside.”

He continues to review and film the toilets, which are separate from the bedroom, and shared, which he says also stink and whose door lock does not work.

Filming the shower, which was also filthy, he concludes that the whole place needs “a good scrub, some TLC and some money spent on it”.

On TripAdvisor, the hotel received very mixed reviews with an overall rating of three out of five stars.

However, the venue received 31 “average” views and 28 “terrible” reviews.

A TripAdvisor member said: “The room was full of the smell of cigarette smoke. There are no attached toilets and the hotel is literally located in an industrial area.

“There are plenty of parking spaces and a kitchen available to cook your own food. The reception is a bit messy and the receptionist was not very welcoming.

“The hotel offers free internet, but the speed is extremely slow.”

Another TripAdvisor member said “you get what you pay for” and added that the room was “ok-ish” but seemed “clean”.

However, another person said: “I stayed at the Teesside Hotel on Saturday 17th August. The staff were very helpful and friendly before (via email) and during the stay.

“The room was functional and relatively comfortable (better than I expected). Very good value for money – would recommend, especially for short stays.
