Opening of a new Co-op convenience store in the Sutton Coldfield pub parking lot
A new convenience store has opened around the corner of a Birmingham pub car park.
A co-op food store has opened at The Boot Inn on Rectory Road near Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield, offering pints of milk to those rushing for a pint of beer next door.
The store has been more than two years in the planning after first receiving a building permit in October 2018.
It stocks groceries including fruit and vegetables and fresh meat, an in-store bakery, Costa express coffee machine, Payppint, and National Lottery terminals. And it will also sell chilled beers, wines and spirits.
The Rectory Road Co-op store is the second in Sutton to open in a pub parking lot, following the opening of a cooperative at the Plow and Harrow site in Mere Green in May 2018.
It is, however, part of the Midcounties Cooperative, considered one of the largest independent cooperatives in the UK and fully owned by its members.
The Midcounties Co-op said customers of its new store will have the option to become a member of the company, which will give them access to “ exclusive member-only and special agent offers ” from across the Your Co-op group of companies.
He added that members also have a say in how the company is run, including the work it does to support local communities in partnership with local volunteers and community groups.
The new Sutton store will create 18 jobs.
Midcounties Co-op announced the opening of six new grocery store openings in April, May and June, with a total food distribution investment of almost £ 3million in 2021.
