Owner’s desperate plea to find dog stolen from vehicle at Sainsbury’s in Kidderminster
A couple have made a desperate appeal to find their dog who was stolen from a supermarket parking lot in Kidderminster.
Springer spaniel Roly was in a vehicle which was parked in the Sainsbury car park as its owner bent over to shop.
Police believe a gang of professional dog thieves was behind the theft because it was quick and well planned.
The theft happened at 1 p.m. last Friday (May 14) when Roly owner Peter Wolfe parked his van in Sainsbury’s parking lot at Crossley Retail Park in Kidderminster.
Peter, from Bewdley, said: “I had been to Morrisons, then I went to Sainsbury’s, parked and left Roly in my van while I quickly pulled over to do some shopping.
“I was in the store when my registration number came on the tannoy telling me to go to customer service.
“I went and was told to go to security and that’s when they said my van had been broken into.
“We got out and there was a woman standing next to my van, saying she saw them stealing my dog.
“She said she saw them grab Roly out of the van, pick him up and throw him in their car.
“He was struggling and didn’t want to go, but they threw him in and then took off at high speed.”
Police were called and dusted the van for fingerprints and also examined CCTV footage from Sainsbury.
Peter, who works as a forester at Wyre Forest, said: “They told me it was professional work as the car had cloned plates and they had come prepared with tools to open the lock on the van in a few minutes. seconds.
“They also think that I was followed between Morrisons and Sainsbury’s and that I will be reviewing their ANPR on this route.”
Peter said the theft left the family “in pieces” because Roly – also known as Rolo – was a beloved pet.
“He’s seven years old and we’ve had him since he was a year old and the whole family adores him,” he said.
“My wife, Stéphanie, is devastated and in pieces. – the worst thing is not knowing what happened to him.
“He was neutered and therefore cannot be used for breeding, so we believe he was stolen for sale because these springer spaniels are very valuable.”
Rolo is a white and liver springer spaniel and has a distinctive mark of a small cyst on his left eye and his tail has not been docked and has been left full and long.
The van stolen from him was a brown metallic Ford Ranger XL4.
