Parking rules confuse Balti Mahal customers

A CURRY house that had to impose parking restrictions reassured customers that they were fine leaving their cars.

Confused customers of Balti Mahal think they can only park in its car park on Astwood Road for 20 minutes, leading to dwindling diner numbers.

But the rules were introduced to make it easier for diners to park after people dumped their cars but didn’t make it to the store.

The 20-minute restriction only applies to Premier Shop customers with Balti Mahal customers able to enter their car registration inside the Astwood Road restaurant.

Restaurateur Saiful Islam said: “It caused a bit of confusion and misunderstanding, but the rules were introduced for local residents and shoppers.

“It’s a private car park that belongs to Balti Mahal and Primo Pizza but people thought it was a public car park.

“We had a few arguments and incidents over this, so we hired a parking management company with cameras monitoring the site.

“If you park here to come to the restaurant, you can come in and put your registration in the tablet, then everything is fine for the whole day.

“The parking lot was full and our customers couldn’t get spaces and I was losing business – we’re just a small business.

“Our customers can park, there are plenty of spaces and they can dine or take out meals in peace.

“Once they put their recording in the tablet, their car is safe for the night.

“People are scared of cameras and we’ve lost business, but we want to reassure them.”

Balti Mahal has been named one of the best Indian restaurants in Worcestershire by lifestyle magazine LUXlife.

Last year, the Sixth Annual Food and Drink Awards named it one of the local restaurants that have demonstrated an “unwavering commitment to excellence in their field”.

Balti Mahal has already been named among the country’s best restaurants for 2021, with the Good Food Awards recognizing the company for its “outstanding” levels of food quality, customer reviews and hygiene ratings.

It was also shortlisted for the same award for 2023.
