Shots fired in ‘family dispute involving rival gang members’: Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL – The following information is from the Highland Park and Highwood Police Departments and Public Records as a record of incidents reported to police and persons arrested by police. Criminal charges represent charges by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Anyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court beyond reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

SHOOTING
Highwood police were called to the 400 block of North Central Avenue at midnight June 11 to a report of gunshots, according to a statement from city officials. He described the incident as a “domestic dispute involving members of rival gangs” in which “all participating parties have been identified” and promised that more information “will be released as appropriate”. Highwood Police have yet to respond to a request for information on any arrests or charges associated with the incident.

LIFTING AT THE FACILITY

  • Three shoplifters stole a combined blender and vacuum worth approximately $594 from Target at 2099 Skokie Valley Road around 1:30 p.m. on June 5 before driving off in a blue SUV. The trio consisted of a man with a black t-shirt, denim shorts and white shoes, a man wearing a black shirt and jeans, and a woman with long brown hair wearing black poop and jeans. Both men had short hair and all three were described as thin.
  • A man with a dark beard who appeared to be in his 40s walked into the Thorntons’ home, 55 Skokie Valley Road, walked around for several minutes and drank two bottles of Fiji water before driving off in a silver Infiniti without paying.

LOCKER THEFT

  • Someone entered a locked locker at LA Fitness, 115 Skokie Valley Road, and stole a credit card from inside sometime before 9:30 p.m. on June 9. The card was then used fraudulently at an unspecified merchant.
  • Sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on June 12, someone entered a locked locker at La Fitness, 115 Skokie Valley Road, and stole a credit card, which was then fraudulently used at other unspecified merchants.

ARRESTS/QUOTES

Laron Lewis27, of the 4000 block of South Lake Park Avenue, Chicago, and Aaliyah A. Martin, 20, of the 6900 block of South Yale Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 4:30 p.m. on June 6 after officers were called to the Ulta Beauty store at 135 Skokie Valley Road for a report of two suspicious people. Store staff identified Lewis and Martin as the thieves responsible for a June 2 shoplifting and they were arrested. Martin was charged with one count of retail theft and Lewis was charged with one.

Maggie Dudek, of the 1100 block of Ridge Road, received a citation for retail theft around 5:30 p.m. on June 7 after officers were called to Sunset Foods, 1812 Green Bay Road, to a report of shoplifting. Dudek was charged with stealing nearly $200 worth of groceries.

Fernando Martinez Jr.22, of the 300 block of Center Street, Waukegan, was arrested on the morning of June 10 and charged with possession of 100-500 grams of cannabis and delivery of 30-500 grams of cannabis after officers were dispatched to the parking lot Casey’s lot, 1333 Half Day Road, for a report of a suspicious car parked in a handicap spot.
