Bizarre details have emerged about a man who allegedly posed as a learner driver as part of an attempted kidnapping.
A man posed as a learner driver and allegedly forced his instructor at knifepoint to drive him to a Brisbane shopping center in a failed kidnapping attempt.
A 24-year-old Sunnybank Hills man will appear in court on Monday after being arrested at the Inala Mall on Saturday.
Police say the man booked a driving lesson and allegedly threatened his instructor with a knife before forcing him to a South Brisbane shopping center where he intended to kidnap a woman he knew.
The victim was able to escape from the vehicle and escaped unscathed, according to the police.
The woman who was the subject of the alleged kidnapping attempt was also found safe and sound.
The man was arrested in the mall parking lot and charged with a series of offences.
He faces one count of deprivation of liberty, extortion with intent to profit, kidnapping for ransom, unlawful entry of a vehicle for committing an indictable offense and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
He was also charged with attempted kidnapping.
The man was refused bail from police and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
