In 2021, the earth is not only angry, sending storms and pandemics to test us, it is also hungry, greedily devouring the automobiles that pollute it.
A viral video from India shows her appetite in action as a Hyundai disappears into the ravenous bowels of the earth.
Or, after heavy rains, a chasm opened up in a parking lot stupidly built over an old well.
The incident happened last weekend in Mumbai, with The Times of India reporting that the well was only covered with a cement slab.
“Part of a well had been covered with reinforced concrete and served as a parking lot,” an official told The Times.
“Due to the excessive precipitation over the past few days and possibly the weight of the vehicle, the concrete part collapsed around 9 am.”
It is believed that the lights at the rear of the vehicle came on due to a short circuit as the car was sucked underwater.
The car was then recovered from the pit, intact but very soggy.
India is currently in a monsoon and Mumbai has been beset by heavy rains in recent days.
