Webuild to start work on $878m mega parking lot project in Diriyah

Saudi Arabia – The Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) today (June 15) inaugurated the construction of a multi-level mega car park under development at a key heritage site in northwest Riyadh, for an investment of 840 million euros (878 million dollars). When complete, the facility can accommodate up to 10,500 vehicles.

Mandated by the DGDA, the contract will be carried out by the Italian construction major Webuild via its subsidiary Salini Saudi Arabia.

The scope of the project includes civil and structural works, tunnels and other connections for the huge neighborhood car park in a new neighborhood along the western ring road.

Spread over nearly one million square meters, the three-storey underground garage is at the heart of an ambitious urban development project in Ad Diriyah, the historic district and Unesco heritage site northwest of Riyadh.

The DGDA said the architecture and design of the neighborhood will be inspired by the traditional Najdi style. It will cover 7 km2 and will include the development of a network of pedestrian streets, public squares, courtyards, souks and bazaars to recreate the authenticity of a Saudi village, he added.

Led by Webuild, its construction will employ 9,000 people as it combines tradition and development.

Webuild is currently working on line 3, which at 42 km is the longest of the lines that will make up Riyadh’s metro system.
